>strong sonic parallels with "desert blues" musicians like Ali Farka Touré and north Malian Tuareg groups like Tinariwen

I got to see this group and it was the best live performance I'd ever seen. Bassekou is a virtuoso performer of an instrument most people have never even heard of - the ngoni - but his talent is formidable

There will always be an audience of listeners who will be paying close attention to music in a geographically unbiased way. It won't be at the numbers that the passive pop audience has; but the people who would like it are already active searchers for music.

My personal opinion is that his last album [2013] Jama Ko has higher peaks, while this year's [2015] Ba Power is his most consistently-engaging outing yet.

Bassekou Kouyaté & Ngoni Ba - Ba Power

easily his most consistently-good album ever
I think it could have been even better had he been more unrestrained, but I get the feeling that improvising while never letting it get out of control was at least part of the point
a solid listen

nice track OP - lots of talented musicians coming out of Mali making great music

Ba Power is easily my favourite album of new music this year - no surprise seeing as Bassekou Kouyaté & Ngoni Ba gave the best live performance I've ever seen in my whole life!
