Death in June - But, What Ends...
They have the luck that they have a nice sound going for them, because if there's anything that lacks any sort of variation it's this album. Literally every song consists of 2 to 3 chords repeated ad infinitum with a reverby flamenco(?) guitar, sometimes a little faster, sometimes a little slower, sometimes David Tibet makes an appearance, sometimes there is a chorus of sorts, but by the end of the day pretty much all the tracks sounded entirely interchangeable. DiJ may have a nice sound, but it can only carry you so far. Some albums can manage with a lack of diversity to an extent because of their dreamy atmosphere, but this kind of album doesn't work like that. If you're gonna give me neofolk, give me Rome, at least they manage to make their songs distinguishable. 5.5/10
