Today's album was Fuck Buttons - Street Horrrsing
I didn't really dig this unfortunately - it's a noise/electronic/ambient album consisting of six sprawling pieces containing a certain element. For instance the first track has this snowy arctic underlying melody and the noise on top feels frosty and fragmented, and then the next track has some tribal drumming with more noise/warbled voices. However a lot of the time, the elements that the group puts together don't actually match each other. The distorted voices that crop up have abrasive qualities that imply fury, but the atmospheres created by the electronics and the percussion are slow-burning ones, and they sound awkward paired up. It's experimentation but it didn't work out. Likewise, there are noise elements like the oscillating static on the fourth track that aren't the right texture and mood for what it's trying to pull off, which is a kind of spinning space-probe ambience. Same goes for a number of the drones/synths. I think the only piece I quite liked was the expected one, Bright Tomorrow, where the synth rhythm is offset to make the track a fun, slow-moving sheet of lush layers. I was less than impressed with the rest of the album, meaning this isn't something I'll return to.
