Com Truise - In Decay
My reaction to this one is a bit different than normal. I'm gonna be rating this one by a slightly different standard than usual.
Com Truise is definitely one of the giants of chillwave, I'd say, which is a genre that I very much love the idea of. For example, I really like Psychic Chasms. I just love the synthesizers in chillwave, and the way the percussion sounds and everything.
All these elements are present here, and for quite a while, about 56 minutes. And the recording is of great quality, not too lo-fi, but still a feeling of amateurism (fitting, since this is a compilation of older material.) All of the material here is really catchy, and will most likely have a person moving around to the rhythm at one point or another.
The problem, however, comes with repeated listens. While it doesn't really get worse, it doesn't seem to offer a whole lot more. And I've already listened to this thing three times, the last two times were during multitasking. I try not to multitask with music I haven't heard before, unless it's of a more ambient nature, but I got just as much out of this one as when I was intently focusing on it. Although, to the album's credit, it's still just as catchy, even when I'm not focusing solely on it.
By no means is this unpleasant to listen to. In fact, this is a pretty fun album to have on. There isn't a whole ton of substance here, though, except on a few REALLY standout tracks. Just don't think too deeply about what you're listening to, and you'll have a good time with this album. 7.5/10.
