Heres a picture of the MCS, my only original expenses were the turntable and a Grado Green1 cartridge, which is now on the Dual. Other than that my Denon receiver and speakers were spares my dad had for his own setup that he let me keep.

I've got a Modular Component Systems 6603 (Rebranded Technics SL-D2) with a Grado Labs Green1 Cart. Receiver is a Denon DRA-345R and I don't give a shit what the speakers are cause they're meh and will be gone once I have my own place.

I'm glad I'll never have to deal with this feel. Honestly you might as well look for a vintage turntable as well. I got my turntable for $30, and I could have gone cheaper on the replacement cart if I wanted to ($80)

The table itself is styled a bit differently than the SL-D2 so JC Pennys could sell it as their own thing but all the parts are the same. Comparing the two I actually like the look of mine better.
