pic of my setup. The mod in the turntable is that I removed the internal preamp due to unwanted capacitance (slightly muting the high end.)

while we're on the subject, rate my setup.

AT-LP120 buuuutt, I removed the preamp included in the turntable and spliced new RCA and groundwire out of it because even setting it to phono proved to add unwanted capacitance. So it's a boring ass turntable that basically relies on the work of the cartridge and no other shit fuckin with it.

Preamp is just a 90's stereo receiver set to phono. is much more painless than the turntable's.

floor towers are KLH with 2 12" woofers (one for deep bass, other for most low end mids) 1 3" speaker and a 1" tweeter each.

Albums are irrelevant even if the master sucks it usually sounds fantastic.

Payed less than $300 bucks for all of it.

I bought an AT-LP120 but I'm gonna be honest it's a little mediocre. The preamp in it sucks ass and caused capacitance even when set to phono stage. So I ripped out the preamp altogether and spliced new wire in it. Sounds more proper now. Also had some direct drive issues with it.

Do what EVERYONE says, and buy used if you can. Vintage turtables are where it's at. They're simply built better most of the time. do your research though before you stumble upon one on craigslist and impulse buy.

I got two giant floor speakers with a audio receiver which acts as my preamp for $100. The caps in the speakers rattled like shit but after I through some crews into em, they are faaaaaat. The sound is huge.

pic related. My setup could have cost even less than $200 if I just bought a used turntable.
