The problem with the vast majority of non-4chan English imageboards is that they simply don't have the numbers to support a large amount of boards. I can appreciate your idea and all, but let's face the facts, there's just going to be a large number of dead boards that get deleted after a few days. The most successful English imageboards are mostly the ones that fill a niche 4chan lacks. I don't really see a site about having 300 dead boards being a particularly interesting place to visit.

Actually, I have no plan to get users. My hope is that someone who wants to make an imageboard but doesn't know how to makes one and it becomes popular.

Pretty much any language can be used for something like this, better if it has a decent web framework though of course.

The client side stuff of course requires HTML/CSS/JS, but server-side could be whatever you want.

Some sort of SQL is probably the most popular solution for the database where posts are kept, but there are other kinds of databases out there.

Try something simple like a textboard first.

I don't go to reddit so I don't know how subreddits are handled but I'd assume the best way for this to work would be to purge inactive boards, ie. treat the boards as individual posts are here but have some method of keeping them around if they're a board that gets used a lot while not completely limiting the number of boards that can be created and push off other boards.

I've actually been thinking about a similar site for a while but I put way too much thought into how things would work and never actually attempted to make it.
