Why is metal so stagnant?

No.121432522 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
Saying this as a fan of the genre, I am more critical of things I'm sympathetic towards. The golden years of metal are so long gone that now we have nostalgia for nu metal. The purists are holding onto records that are 25 to 30 years old, newer artists are anti-draws and cannot headline a single festival. It's time we hold people accountable, when did this regression start? And how does metal get back to its roots?
